Fordham University sophomore swimmer Brienne Ryan (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) and freshman swimmer Shintaro Noguchi (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) both earned Atlantic 10 weekly honors this week, it was announced by the league office today. Ryan was named Women's Performer of the Week for the second time this season, while Noguchi recevied the Men's Rookie of the Week award for the first time.
Ryan helped pick up four of Fordham's six wins in Saturday's meet against Boston University. The sophomore placed first in the 100-yard (:52.12) and 200-yard (1:53.24) freestyle and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:46.13) and the 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:31.48). All four finishes were season-best times for the Fordham women.
Noguchi finished first and second in his two individual events on Saturday against Bostno University. The freshman won the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.42) and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (:51.57). He also competed in the 200 medley relay (1:36.43) and 400 freestyle relay (3:08.98), helping set season-best times in both events for the Rams.
Ryan, Noguchi, and the rest of the Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on November 19-21, when the teams compete at the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway, N.J.
