Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis team opened play today at the Marist Invitational where three Rams advanced to the semifinals in singles play. Angelika Dabu moved to the semifinals in the women's A flight, Sarah Tremaine in the C flight and Jennifer Mullen in the D flight.

Dabu opened play with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Albany's Susan Ma and then defeated Erin McCarthy of Marist in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-2, to advance to the semifinals.

In the C flight, Tremaine received a bye to the quarterfinals where she moved on with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Retta Byron of Marist.

Mullen started the day with a win over Siena's Jennifer Messing (6-3, 6-0) and then upended Albany's Rachel Drake (6-0, 6-0) in the quarterfinals to advance to Sunday's quarterfinals.

Mia Fiocca also competed in the A flight singles for Fordham, defeating Siena's Danielle Crill in the round of 16 (6-2, 6-3) before falling to Maria Eduarda Yurgel of Marist in the quarterfinals (6-3, 6-2).

Bethany Boyle received a first round bye in the C flight singles but then fall to Sarah Iannone, 6-2, 6-3, in the quarterfinals, while Monika Chao fell in the first round of the D flight to Melissa Coughlin of Albany, 2-6, 6-2, 10-7.

In doubles play, Fiocca and Tremaine were upended by Marist's Erin McCarthy and Maria Eduarda Yurgel, 8-3, in the A flight quarterfinals while Dabu and Boyle fell to Carly Holloway and Danielle Crill of Siena in the B flight quarterfinals, 8-6, and Mullen and Chao lost to Marist's Marielle Campbell and Jeannie Lukin in the C flight quarterfinals, 8-2.

The Rams will finish play at the Marist Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 10. Play will consist of the doubles finals, singles semifinals and finals as well as back draw matches.
