The Fordham golf team opened play at the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational on Saturday at the Plymouth Country Club in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Through the opening round, Fordham is tied for 14th out of 21 teams.
The large field is led by Furman University after day one with a score of 283 (+3), followed by Princeton (289 = +9), Villanova (291 = +11), and Campbell (291 = +11). Fordham is tied with Temple in 14th place with an opening round score of 303 (+23).
Three golfers broke par on day one, led by Furman's Matthew Broome, who shot a 66 (-4). Darmouth's Peter Williamson (68 = -2) and Yale's Tom McCarthy (69 = -1) are also under par for the tournament.
For Fordham, Brody Nieporte and Devon O'Rourke shot matching 73's (+3) to finish day one in a tie for 19th overall. Jason Del Rosso is tied for 66th overall with a 77 (+7), while Connor Monahan (T-90th - 80) and Charles Smith (111th - 87) are also competing for the Rams.
The Big 5 Invitational will conclude on Sunday, October 9th with play beginning at 8:00 AM.
