The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced its weekly awards and honor roll this afternoon, as Fordham's Victor Bautista Medina (San Cristobal, Venezuela/Juan XXIII) was named Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week, while Ali Arat (Istanbul, Turkey/Sisli Terakki Secondary) was named to the league's weekly honor roll.
Bautista Medina is the second Rams to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors this season, as Christian Flessner also won the award on October 14th.
Bautista Medina was solid defensively, posting five steals in two wins this past weekend for the Rams, while adding a goal and four assists. In the late match on Sunday, he had three steals and two assists in an 11-9 win over Gannon, while earlier he posted two steals, two assists and a goal in a 9-7 win over Mercyhurst.
Overall this season, Bautista Medina ranks third on the Rams and 12th nationally with 29 steals this season, while being the team leader with 20 assists.
Arat totaled five goals on eight shots in two victories for the Rams, while adding an assist and five steals. He finished with two goals and two steals in a win over Gannon with three goals, an assist and three steals in the win over Mercyhurst.
Overall, Arat leads the Rams with 76 goals this season, and ranks second in the country in goal and points (86).
Bautista Medina, Arat, and the rest of the Rams (13-13, 3-3) close out their regular season schedule tonight at the Messmore Auqatic Center against the Iona College Gaels at 7:30 PM. The game can be seen live through the All-Access Player on FordhamSports.com.
