Swimming & Diving Places Second at Husky Invitational

Storrs, Conn. - The Fordham swimming & diving teams continued their opening week of competition at the Husky Invitational in Storrs, Connecticut on Saturday. The Rams ended the day second to Connecticut in the five-team field.

On the men's side, Connecticut scored 854 points, followed by Fordham (661), Fairfield (320), and Providence (249), while on the women's side Connecticut had 831 points, followed by Fordham (532), Central Connecticut (399), Fairfield (246), and Providence (180).

Fordham totaled seven events win on the day, led by sophomore Brienne Ryan, who took first in three individual events, and later helped the 200 freestyle relay to a win. Ryan won the 50 freestyle in 24.38 seconds, as well as the 100 and 200 backstroke in 56.40 and 2:04.14, respectively. In the 200 freestyle relay, Ryan joined Kellie Lyver, Alexandra Wessel, and Kelly Bunster in the event win in a time of 1:39.39.

Junior Courtney Collyer also won an event on the women's side, taking home the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:36.75. The Fordham women's also earned a pair of second place finishes as senior Megan McGorry was runner-up in the 1000 freestyle (10:30.37), while freshman Shannon Jones was second in the 100 butterfly in 59.32 seconds.

On the men's side, freshman Shintaro Noguchi earned an event win in the 100 butterfly in a time of 50.78 seconds, while taking second in the 50 freestyle (21.77). Junior Sean McManus also posted an event win in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:14.89.

Noguchi also joined Billy Colton, Thomas Yi, and Devon Morris in the 200 freestyle relay, placing second in a time of 1:25.09. Freshman Michael Grimmett-Norris also earned a runner-up finish in the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:17.69.

The Fordham swimming & diving team will next be in action on Saturday, November 13th, when it hosts Boston University at 1:00 PM in the Messmore Aquatic Center.
