Volleyball Drops Four-Set Decision at Duquesne

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Despite a solid offensive effort that saw three Rams with at least 16 kills, the Fordham Rams dropped a four-set match to the Duquesne Dukes at the Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Final set scores were 16-25, 25-20, 26-24, and 25-22.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 12-13 overall, 3-4 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne improved to 14-6 overall, 3-2 in the conference.

Set one was tied at 11, before Fordham scored 12 of the next 14 points, capped by a pair of Mary Diamantidis service aces to give the Rams a 23-13 lead, and eventually a 25-16 set win. The Rams hit .350 for the set to go with four blocks.

Duquesne evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-20 set win, as the Dukes hit .481 in the second set with four blocks.

The tide of the match then changed near the end of the third set. Fordham earned set point at 24-22 on a Duquesne error, but two ball handling errors by Diamantidis tied the score at 24. The Dukes then got a kill by Sara Scheirman and a Fordham error to earn a 2-1 set lead.

In the fourth set, there was a total of 13 tie scores and seven lead changes. At 22 all, Duquesne closed out the match with two kills by Allison Foschia and a block from Liz Homan and Scheirman. It was Homan's eighth block of the match to go with 13 kills.

For Fordham, Brittany Daulton posted a double-double with match-highs of 17 kills and 17 digs, while Kailee May and Katie Wells each had 16 kills. Diamantidis also had a double-double with 50 assists, 13 digs, and two aces with Maria Rodenberg and Emily Atwood each having 10 digs, defensively.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Sunday, October 17th, when the Rams play at Atlantic 10 opponent, Saint Louis University, beginning at 2:00 PM.
