The Fordham University swept the weekly Atlantic 10 Cross Country weekly awards with Julian Saad (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) and Kerri Gallagher (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) earning Men's and Women's Performer of the Week, respectively, and Michael Belgiovine (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) and Anisa Arsenault (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) claimed the Men's and Women's Rookie of the Week honors, respectively. The weekly award is the second of the year of both Gallagher and Belgiovine while Saad and Arsenault win their first ever weekly honor.
Last Friday, the Rams competed at the Metropolitan Cross Country Championship at Van Cortlandt Park where the Fordham men placed third of 14 teams and the women were fifth of 15 teams.
Saad paced the men, placing 14th out of 139 runners in the 8K race. The sophomore finished with a season-best time of 26:30, the fifth fastest 8K for the Rams in 2010, and helped lead the Rams to the third place finish.
Belgiovine, who was also named A-10 Rookie of the Week on September 27th, was the top Fordham freshman at the Metropolitan Championship with a time of 26:45, placing 21st overall. He has the fourth fastest 8K time for Fordham in 2010 with a 26:27.98 clocking in the Fordham Fiasco on September 11th.
On the women's side, Arsenault was the top Fordham finisher, taking seventh out of 134 runners to guide the team to the fifth place finish. She completed the 5K race
with a time of 18:47. Arsenault has the second fastest 5K time for a Fordham woman this fall, an 18:40.69 clocking at the C.W. Post Invitational on September 18th.
Gallagher, who was also named A-10 Performer of the Week on September 14th, was the second Rams across the line, finishing eleventh in a time of 19:05. She has turned in the top 5K cross country performance for the Rams in 2010, with an 18:17.64 finish in the Fordham Fiasco on September 11th.
The Fordham men's and women's cross country teams will next be in action on Sunday, October 17th as they compete at the St. John's Fall Festival in Cunningham Park at 10:00 a.m.
