Competing in their second meet of the weekend, the Fordham track & field team took off to Connecticut to compete at the Yale Collegiate Invitational in New Haven, where the Rams posted six top tens and one event win.
Junior Kerri Gallagher brought home the top time in the mile run, winning the event in 4:59.17. She also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay along with sophomores Kelly Connolly, Sheena Parand, and Elisabeth Warren finishing in fourth place in 4:03.04.
The women's team also got a top ten finish from senior Brigid Moriarty, who placed sixth in the 3,000 meter run in 10:12.12, the fastest by a Ram in close to 15 years, as well as freshman Courtnay Newman in the 60 meter hurdles (9.86).
Other women's competitors were Parand (11th - 2:23.34) and freshman Ashley Davis (25th - 2:37.77) in the 800 meters and sophomore Mairin O'Connor in the 3,000 meters (14th - 10:56.97). The 4x800 relay team of sophomore Mary LeSage and freshmen Christina Machado, Kellen Fitzgerald, and Newman placed 12th overall in 10:50.39.
In the men's competition, the relay teams brought home three top five finishes, led by the distance medley relay, which qualified for the IC4A Championship. The group of sophomores Tim Hutchinson and Kevin Fitzgerald and juniors Christopher Lyons and Brian Schmidt placed third in a time of 10:16.17.
Lyons and Schmidt also helped the 4x00 relay take fourth in a time of 3:21.80, joining freshman Sean Atkinson and sophomore Nick Delligatti. The Rams' final relay was the 4x800, consisting of sophomores Stephen Donnelly and Carter Ward and freshmen Bernard Moore and Michael Rossi, which placed fourth in a time of 7:55.80.
In the individual events, sophomore Brian Riley (8:53.32) and freshman Julian Saad (8:53.39) placed 10th and 11th, respectively in the 3,000 meter run, while freshman John Cosgrove was 12th in the 800 meters (2:02.23). In the 400 meters, Atkinson had the Rams' top time placing 11th in 50.63 seconds, while Delligatti (52.14) and sophomore Jarrett Anistranski (53.43) were 28th and 40th respectively in the event.
The Fordham track & field teams will next be in action on Saturday, January 16th, as they compete at the Armory Challenge, held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York.
