New York, N.Y. - The Fordham track & field teams got back to work following Christmas break at the Metro Coaches Invitational on Friday night at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York.
The Rams had a total of 15 competitors in the meet, putting together four top ten finishes, all of which from the women's side. Freshman Courtnay Newman had the Rams' best finish, taking second in the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters. Junior Sherilyn Groeninger placed ninth in the 60 meter dash in 7.94 seconds, while also adding a 12th place finish in the 200 meter dash (26.26). Groeninger however did break the school record in the 60 meter dash during her preliminary run at 7.87 seconds. Her time also set a new standard at Fordham as a converted 55 meter dash time at 7.37, topping Kristen Gecewicz's previous school record of 7.44 (converted 7.2 second hand time).
Sophomore Elisabeth Warren placed tenth overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.06 meters, while also placing 15th in the 200 meter dash (26.49). Sophomore Kelly Connolly rounded out the top tens with a ninth place finish in the 500 meters in 1:18.61.
Other women's competitors were freshman Kellen Fitzgerald (31st in the 500m - 1:27.04), freshman Christina Machado (34th in the mile run - 6:00.77), and sophomore Mary LeSage (38th in the mile run - 6:05.09).
In the men's competition, junior Pat Brown had the team's best finish, taking 13th in the weight throw (13.46m), while sophomore Sam Stuart (15th - 4:27.20), senior Brian Horowitz (19th - 4:29.44), and junior Tom Kelly (20th - 4:31.10) all placed in the top 20 of the mile run.
Other men's competitors were sophomore Jarrett Anistranski (16th in the 800m - 2:00.53), freshman John Cosgrove (28th in the 500m - 1:08.25), and freshman Daniel Clemens (20th in the 60m hurdles - 9.20).
The Fordham track & field teams are back in action on Saturday, January 9th at the Yale Collegiate Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut.
