Women's Basketball Opens Atlantic 10 Season Saturday Against Saint Joseph's

Jan. 8, 2010

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Fordham women's basketball team starts their Atlantic 10 season on Saturday with a clean slate, as they take on Saint Joseph's at 1:00 PM at Hagan Arena in the first half of a basketball doubleheader. The second half of the doubleheader will feature the Fordham men's team also taking on Saint Joseph's at 4:00 PM.

With this new start, Ram fans taking in the game on WFUV.org will hear a new player feature during the broadcast, which will take place for the rest of the season. Saturday's featured player will be senior forward Randall Hurst. Hurst currently leads Fordham in scoring at 15.6 points per game, while having a league-best five 20-point games this season.

Fans can also follow the game on GameTracker .

The Fordham women hope to improve on previous Atlantic 10 openers as well as their performance against Hawks. The Rams are just 3-11 in their conference openers since joining the Atlantic 10 in the 1995-96 season, while also taking on the Hawks, a team that Fordham has only beaten three times in 32 all-time meetings.

The game is also the second of four Jesuit Basketball Spotlight games that Fordham will play this season. The Rams are 1-0 this season, defeating St. Peter's back on December 2nd, while still having match-ups against Saint Louis and Xavier.

The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight pilot project is a nationwide effort to identify basketball games between Jesuit schools during the upcoming 2009-2010 season, and, through those games, bring greater positive awareness to Jesuit education and mission. This project was developed by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) in response to member institutions wanting to spread the word of Jesuit higher education through the more than 90 basketball games in which Jesuit institutions play each other (men and women) this 2009-2010 year.
