Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University announced the full 2009-10 women's basketball schedule, which includes four doubleheaders with the men's team, and nine games against opponents which made post season tournaments last year.
Fordham will tip off the regular season with a home opener at the historic Rose Hill Gymnasium against Albany on Friday, November 13, the first of the four twinbills, at 6:00 PM while the conference home opener is set for Saturday, January 16 when Fordham hosts Duquesne University.
The Rams begin Atlantic 10 conference play with back-to-back road games in the City of Brotherly Love, first on Saturday, January 9 against Saint Joseph's University, followed by Temple University on January 13.
"The Atlantic 10 Conference is the strongest non-BCS conference in the country with seven teams making NCAA and WNIT appearances," said head coach Cathy Andruzzi. "Our non-conference schedule is challenging and will test us early as we prepare for conference play.
"Our players are looking forward to this season," continued Andruzzi. "Preparation for this year began in the spring and has carried through the summer and pre-season individuals this Fall. The strength of the Atlantic 10 conference from top to bottom is solid."
As for the rest of the conference schedule, defending Atlantic 10 Champions, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, face the Rams at Rose Hill with the January 20 game slated as the Fourth Annual Rams' School Day. Children from Bronx schools will be invited to take in the game at a special noon time game. Closing out the home stand is a January 23 meeting with University of Rhode Island.
The rest of the home conference schedule includes La Salle (January 30), Dayton (February 10) and Saint Louis (February 16). The Saint Louis game will be the Rams' Pink Zone game with proceeds going to various charities to help the fight against breast cancer. The Rams will close out the 2009-10 season against Xavier on February 27.
The Rams road conference schedule will take them to St. Bonaventure (Jan. 27), Richmond (Feb. 3), George Washington (Feb. 20), Massachusetts (Feb. 6) and La Salle (Feb. 13).
The 2010 Atlantic 10 Tournament will take place at Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. from March 5-8, 2010.
