Having to wait out a number of weather delays on Sunday, the Fordham softball team finally got their first two fall home games in, as they defeated CW Post and Dominican College. With the wins, Fordham stayed perfect in fall play at 6-0.
In game one, The Rams topped CW Post, 9-1, as three Fordham pitchers combined for a three-hitter. Jen Mineau started in the circle for Fordham allowing one run on a home run in her three innings of work with three strikeouts. Jamie LaBovick then struck out four batters in three innings of one-hit relief, while Beckah Wiggins closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.
At the plate, Jocelyn Dearborn led the attack, going 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, while Lindsey Kay Bright was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Wiggins, Meghan Shager, and Erin Fisher each had a pair of hits with Wiggins adding three RBI.
In game two, Dearborn drove in Bright with game-winning double off the wall in left to give the Rams a 4-3 win in 10 innings.
In the tenth with the scored tied at three, LaBovick retired the side in order to start the inning for Fordham. Bright then led off with a single, and came all the way around from first on a double by Dearborn to win the game.
Bright finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while Dearborn and Jessica Richards each had a pair of hits. LaBovick drove in the other Fordham run.
In the circle, Chelsea Plimpton started the game, allowing one earned run on three hits in three innings, while Mineau threw six innings of two-hit relief with 11 strikeouts. LaBovick threw the final inning and was credited with the win.
The Fordham softball team will wrap up fall play on Saturday, October 3rd, when they host a pair of opponents at Bahoshy Field. The Rams take on St. John's at 9:00 AM, followed by an 11:00 AM game against Sacred Heart.
