Men's Golf Takes Third at Dartmouth Invitational

Hanover, N.H. - After shooting a school-record 67 on the first day of the Dartmouth Invitational, Fordham freshman Jason Del Rosso had the chance to win the tournament today but he saw that chance end on the first playoff hole as Dartmouth's James Pleat tied Del Rosso through two rounds and then scored a par on the first hole to win medalist honors.

In the team competition, Dartmouth combined to shoot a four-under par (280) as a team to win its home tournament with a 579 total (+11). The Big Green edged out Yale by four strokes, while Fordham finished 14 strokes back to place third.

Del Rosso shot a 72 on the second day for a two-day total of 139 while Pleat carded a 68 on day two to force the playoff.

Only three players were able to break par in the final round, played during a soft steady rain. The low round was posted by Big Green sophomore Peter Williamson with a 67 (-4), who scored an eagle today and finished the tournament in a tie for fourth with a one-over 143. The only other player to shoot under par was Charles Smith of Fordham with 68, one day after carding an 84. The 68 is the second bext round all-time at Fordham, second only to Del Rosso's 67 on Saturday.

Smith finished in a tie for 30th with his two-round score of 152 while Devon O'Rourke followed a first day 80 with a 73 over the second 18 holes to turn in a 153, tying him for 35th. David Newman shot a 76 and a 79 (155) to take 40th and Brendan Green carded a 78 and an 81 for a 159 total to tie for 50th.

Fordham freshmen Brody Nieporte and Nick Polvino also played the course but did not count in the team scoring. Nieporte shot a 71 and a 75 for a 146 total which tied him for eighth while Polvino turned in a 76 and a 74 for a 150 total, good for a tie for 19th.

The Rams will next be in action on Saturday and Sunday, October 3rd and 4th, as they compete in the MacDonald Cup at Yale University.
