Women's Tennis Competes at Quinnipiac Invitational

Hamden, Conn. - The Fordham University women's tennis squad opened play at the 2009 Quinnipiac Tournament on Friday with doubles competition. All three of the Fordham doubles teams fell in the first round but the duo of Elizabeth Stall and Jane Carroll were victorious in a consolation match.

Stall and Carroll opened play in the B Doubles Flight with an 8-1 loss to Rhode Island's Pam Emery and Amanda Barletta, 8-1, but came back in the consolation bracket to upend Morgan Kiser and Holly Pappofotis of Army, 8-6.

In other Flight B doubles action the Fordham team of Brittany Russell and Jennifer Mullen fell to Sacred Heart's Delaney Downing and Ashley Amalfe, 8-6, and then fell to Rhode Island's Michelle Dussol and Jenna Williams, 8-4.

In A doubles, the duo of Martina Featherston and Sarah Tremaine dropped a first round match to Adrienne Markison and Sarah Viebrock of the host school, 8-4, and then fell to Sacred Heart's Darcy Demers and Julianne Kasinow, 8-3.

The other Fordham doubles team of Bethany Boyle and Taylor Holt lost to Kate Donnelly and Rebecca McMullin of Sacred Heart, 8-5, and then went down to Army's Annie Hang and Audrey Hansen, 8-3.

The Rams will continue play at the Quinnipiac Tournament on Saturday as they start singles competition.
