Margaret Carey Named Women's Basketball Assistant Coach

Aug. 7, 2009

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham women's basketball coach Cathy Andruzzi announced the hiring of Margaret Carey as an assistant women's basketball coach.

"I love Margaret's energy and her passion for the game," notes Andruzzi. "Her experience as a head coach, assistant coach and player make her a valuable addition to our coaching staff and an asset to the growth of our student-athletes."

Carey comes to Rose Hill after coaching a year at her alma mater, Mount St. Mary's University, where she served as recruiting coordinator for the Mountaineers for the 2008-09 season. During her stint at the Mount, she helped the team continue its string of 20-straight NEC Tournament appearances and to their best season recorded since the 2000-01 season.

Prior to her time on the Mountaineers coaching staff, Carey was the head coach at Catholic University where she amassed 44-35 record from 2005-08. That successful run included leading the Cardinals to the Capital Athletics Conference Championship Game in her first year as a head coach.

Carey's coaching career began as an assistant at Richard Stockton College in New Jersey. Over the span of 2001-05, she helped the Ospreys to a 67-43 record while guiding the squad to a New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament title and appearances at the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2004-05 and the ECAC Championships during the 2002-03 season.

While graduating from Mount St. Mary's with a B.A. in Rhetoric and Communications, Carey was a three-year letterwinner from 1997-00 and put up 156 points, 64 rebounds, 23 steals and 91 assists in her career with the Mount. As a walk-on and eventual full-scholarship athlete, Carey helped the Mountaineers to two 20-win seasons, including a Northeast Conference regular season title in 1998-99.
