Bronx, N.Y. - Members of the Fordham University football, volleyball, men's soccer, water polo and cross country squads spent part of Sunday standing at the ready outside of the various dorms, helping the incoming freshmen unload their vehicles. This has become an annual event for the Rams, who come to the aid of the Office of Residential Life by lending a hand to make move-in day run smoothly.

"The Residential Life Office helps us out when we open camp in the summer by allowing us to move in early," said Fordham head coach Tom Masella. "This is our way of thanking them and of welcoming the new students to Fordham."

The football Rams were in charge of hauling the heavy goods at Alumni South and Martyr's Court, including refrigerators, televisions and cases of water, up flights of stairs, gleaning admiration from parents and students who thought they would have to do the heavy lifting themselves. They were aided at Alumni South by members of the women's cross country squad. The volleyball, who just returned to campus after playing in a tournament in Buffalo on Friday and Saturday, and water polo teams were out in force at Hughes Hall while the men's cross country team lent a hand at Tierney Hall. The men's soccer crew lugged packages at Queens Court.

The football Rams will open their 2009 schedule on Saturday, September 5th, when the Rams travel to Kingston, R.I., to face the University of Rhode Island at 1:00 p.m. Season tickets are now available on the Fordham Athletic Website at www.fordhamsports.com.

The women's volleyball team opened play this past weekend as they placed third at the Buffalo Invitational. They will open their home season on Wednesday, September 9th as they host Iona in the Rose Hill Gym at 7:00 p.m.

The men's soccer squad opens their 2009 slate on Wednesday night, September 2nd, as they host Hartwick College on Jack Coffey Field at 7:00 p.m.

The water polo Rams open their 2009 season at the Navy Invitational on September 5th and 6th and will have their first home contest on Saturday, September 26th when they host Connecticut College in the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatics Center at 8:00 p.m.

The cross country team will open the 2009 season on Saturday, September 12th, as they host the Fordham Fiasco at Van Cortlandt Park at 10:30 a.m.
