The 2009 Fordham volleyball season gets underway this weekend at the University at Buffalo Invitational in Buffalo, N.Y. The Rams will start 2009 against Seton Hall on Friday at 4:30 PM, followed by matches against Buffalo (1:00 PM) and Boston College (4:30 PM) on Saturday.
The Rams are strong this season with 14 returnees on the roster, including every starter. Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selections Christi Griffiths and Katie Wells are both back for their third year at Rose Hill, while Katherine Burrell returns for her redshirt senior season at setter.

Preseason Rankings: In the Atlantic 10 coaches' preseason poll, Fordham was selected to finish sixth out of ten teams this season.
Team Captains: For the second straight year, fifth year senior
Katherine Burrell and junior
Christi Griffiths will serve as team captains.
Milestone Watch: With a very experienced group in 2009, a number of Rams will close in on career milestones throughout the year.
Fifth-year senior Katherine Burrell is just 46 assists shy of 3,000, which would make her only the fifth Ram to reach that mark. She is also 231 assists shy of fourth place on Fordham's all-time assists list, which is held by Meg Quinn. In digs, Burrell needs 237 to become just the fourth Ram to have 1,000 digs.
Junior Christi Griffiths needs 199 kills to reach 1,000 for her career. She is also looking for her third straight 300-kill season, which only Val Bosticco ('93) and Roxanne Hill ('04) have accomplished at Fordham.
Ranked Opponents: With the preseason polls released by the AVCA and Volleyball Magazine, Fordham has three opponents ranked in the top 25 in 2009. The Rams are set to play #9/10 UCLA, #20/17 Saint Louis, and #23/RV Long Beach State.
