Bronx, N.Y. - With the summer months now upon us, it is time to take a look at how two former Fordham baseball teammates are making waves in the minor leagues. Here is an update on Cory Riordan and John Mollicone.
Cory Riordan - Pitcher - Modesto Nuts (Colorado Rockies) - Class A Advanced - California League
After starting his third season in the Colorado farm system on a bit of a rocky note, Riordan has gotten things going lately, posting a 3-1 record and 0.61 ERA for the month of June. After giving up just one earned run in 8 1/3 innings of work with six strikeouts in his last start, Riordan was named the California League Pitcher of the Week. On the season, Riordan holds a 4-5 record and 4.16 ERA with 54 strikeouts and a team-leading 80 innings pitched.
John Mollicone - First Base - Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) - Class A - South Atlantic League
Mollicone is in his third season of professional baseball in the South Atlantic League as the former Fordham catcher is manning first base for the Bowling Green Hot Rods. In 21 games, Mollicone is batting .218 with four doubles and nine walks while his one home run of the season was a three-run blast that brought the Hot Rods a 4-2 victory on June 12.
Mollicone will make his closest appearance in the Bronx area when the Hot Rods head to Lakewood, N.J. (approx. 70 miles south of the Bronx) when they take on the Lakewood Blueclaws from July 13-16.
