Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham baseball right-handed pitcher Peter Kennelly (Pearl River, N.Y./Bergen Catholic) was selected in the 38th round (#1152) of the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft by the Minnesota Twins. Kennelly has been the only Ram drafted this year thus far, and is the tenth Fordham baseball draft pick in the last eight seasons.
Kennelly has not pitched since the 2009 season as he was sidelined this season due to injury. Though he is a senior, Kennelly has the option to either sign with the Twins or return to Fordham for a fifth year as he has one more year of eligibility.
In 2008, Kennelly posted a 1-2 record with a 4.82 ERA, striking out 39 batters in 37.0 innings of work in eight games started. It was in his sophomore season, in 2007, that Kennelly had the most impact with the Rams, recording five saves with a team-leading 1.26 ERA while throwing 28.2 innings in 16 appearances and striking out 30 batters. During his freshman campaign, Kennelly went 3-2 with a 6.92 ERA in 26.0 innings pitched spread throughout 18 appearances.
