Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham assistant men's soccer coach Ryszard Gorski has been selected as part of a 20-player squad to play for Great Britain Men's Soccer at the 2009 World University Games in July. This is the second time Gorski will compete in the competition having played back in 2005 at the Games that took place in Izmir, Turkey.
Gorski was also scheduled to appear in 2007 games that were staged in Bangkok, Thailand, but had to pull out due to injury.
The 25th World University Summer Games (Universiade) will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, on July 1st-12th. The Games are the 2nd largest global multi-sports event after the Summer Olympics and over 9,000 competitors and officials from 165 nations are expected to attend in 2009.
Gorski will head over to Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire, England, before the start of the games for a ten-day training camp that will include practices and a number of exhibition games against some top English sides.
The men's soccer portion of the games features 16 teams. Great Britain has been placed in Group A along with Serbia, Mexico and Ghana, before the knockout stage of the competition begins.
