Fordham University freshman Lindsey Kay Bright (Federal Way, Wash./Decatur) was named Atlantic 10 Softball Rookie of the Week, it was announced today by the conference in its final set of weekly softball awards. This is Bright's second weekly honor this season.
Bright hit .471 (8-17) in six games to end the season, scoring four runs to go with two RBI. She regained the Fordham single season stolen base record with four this week, all in conference play, to have 27 stolen bases this season.
Bright was a season-best 4-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in the first game at URI. She followed with two hits, two runs scored, and two steals in game two at URI. On Sunday, she had a stolen base and scored the eventual game-winning run in Fordham's upset win over #24/19 UMass.
Overall, Bright finished the regular season second on the team with a .347 batting average, while leading the team in stolen bases.
Bright and the rest of the Rams (36-20, 13-7 Atlantic 10) will now host the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship this week, May 6th through the 9th, at Fordham's Bahoshy Field. The tournament begins on Wednesday with fourth-seeded Fordham against fifth-seeded Saint Joseph's at 1:00 PM. The winner of that game will play on Thursday, May 7th against #1 seed Massachusetts.
