Greensboro, N.C. - As the lone Fordham competitor, senior Matt DiBuono took on 29 other competitors in the hammer throw event at the NCAA East Regional on Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, North Carolina. He looked to continue a fantastic senior season, as he advanced to the finals and placed seventh overall.

DiBuono was an automatic qualifier as the Atlantic 10 champion in the hammer, but by the time the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship came around he had already qualified for the regional with an automatic qualifying mark an amazing school record throw of 214' 4", which was set multiple times this season, most recently at the IC4A Championship two weeks ago.

On Saturday, the 2009 Lombardi Award winner improved on his 16th place finish at last year's NCAA Regional, as he advanced to the finals of the event. He opened the preliminaries with a mark of 60.90 meters followed by a foul on his second attempt. DiBuono then posted a mark of 62.33 meters (204' 6") to move on to the finals of the hammer throw, qualifying fifth of 30 competitors.

In the final, DiBuono was unable to better that 62.33 throw, as he fouled on his first two final attempts, while his final toss went 61.59 meters. He would finish seventh overall, scoring two points in the event, which placed Fordham in a tie for 43rd out of 51 teams that scored on the weekend.

DiBuono finished ahead of competitors from Army (2), Monmouth, Navy, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, New Hampshire (2), Harvard, Princeton (2), Florida State (2), Robert Morris, Buffalo, Northeastern, Gardner-Webb, Temple, Clemson, Georgia (2), and Manhattan.
