May 1, 2009

Bronx, N.Y. - As the 2008-09 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 75th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on April 29th to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year. Among those honored was sophomore Samantha Pellechio, who was named softball MVP.

Through games of April 28th, Pellechio, who was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team in 2008, is hitting .361 (57-158) with eleven doubles, one triple, nine home runs and 38 RBI. Besides leading the team in batting average, she also leads the squad in home runs and RBI. Pellechio is ranked second in the Atlantic 10 in hits, home runs and RBI and fourth in batting average.

Pellechio has led the Rams to a 33-17 overall record, Fordham's seventh straight 30-win season, and a 10-4 mark in the Atlantic 10 (through games of April 27th). The Rams will look to win their first ever Atlantic 10 title as Fordham hosts the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship on Bahoshy Field from May 6-9.
