Bronx, N.Y. -
As the 2008-09 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 75th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on April 29th to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year. Among those honored was junior Lauren Bustos, who was named women's soccer MVP.
Bustos, who prior to the Atlantic 10 Championship was named the 2008 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference, started all 20 contests last fall and anchored a defensive unit that registered eight shutouts, including five in league play, and limited 13 Ram opponents to one goal or less. She was the first Fordham women's soccer player to earn a major Atlantic 10 award, and the third Fordham defender to earn First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors, joining Kara Coniker (2000) and Corey Dunfey (2003).
Bustos was also a Second Team All-Northeast Region honoree by Soccer Buzz Magazine.
