Jeana Fletcher Named 2008-09 Fordham Women's Indoor Track & Field MVP

Bronx, N.Y. - As the 2008-09 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 75th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on April 29th to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year. Among those honored was Jeana Fletcher, who was named women's indoor track & field MVP.

Fletcher became the second Ram in three years to win the pentathlon at the Atlantic 10 championship, compiling 3,559 points, just five points ahead of runner-up Shayna Daugherty of Rhode Island. She won the shot put (37' 10.5"), took second in the long jump (16' 8.5") and placed fourth in the 55m hurdles (8.78), the high jump (5' 5.25" - season best) and the 800m (2:28.05).

Her performance at the Atlantic 10 Championship qualified Fletcher for the ECAC Championship where she took sixth in the pentathlon to earn All-East honors. She scored 3,369 points in the event, taking third in the shot put (36' 5.5"), sixth in the high jump (5' 2.25") and the 800m (2:29.36), seventh in the 60m hurdles (9.47) and the long jump (16' 2.25").

During the indoor season, Fletcher set the school shot put record (39' 4") while also turning in the top high jump (5' 5.25") and long jump (17' 8.25") performances as well as the top 55m hurdles time (8.78).
