The Fordham University men's tennis team ventured up to Vassar College on Wednesday but couldn't find any success on the courts as the Brewers shutout the Rams, 9-0, at the Walker Fieldhouse. The loss drop Fordham to 5-8 on the year while Vassar improves to 9-6.
Fordham opened play by dropping all three doubles matches with Dallas Harting and Eli Plangger falling at first doubles to Michael Mattelson and Jeremy Rosen, 8-4, and Sotiris Georgiou and Peter Slucky dropping second doubles to Max Willner and Gregory Katz, 8-0. Nick Kelly and Ken Fukumoto played at third doubles for the Rams, losing to Vassar's Joshua Jasso and Peter Ludlow, 8-5.
In singles play, Harting fell at first singles to Mattelson, 6-2 and 6-1; Brandon Abbatiello fell at second singles to Willner, 6-2 and 6-1; and Kevin Maloney was upended at third singles by Katz, 6-1 and 6-0. At fourth singles, Georgiou dropped a two-set match to Jasso, 6-2 and 6-2; while Slucky fell to Shane Donahue at fifth singles (6-2, 6-1) and Plangger was bested at sixth singles by Rosen (6-0, 6-2).
The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, April 15th, as they travel to Concordia College for a 3:00 p.m. match.
