Track & Field Opens Competition At Colonial Relays

Day One Results

Williamsburg, Va. - The Fordham track & field teams opened competition at the 44th Annual Colonial Relays on Friday in Williamsburg, Virginia, on the campus of William & Mary. No team scores were kept.

The highlight of the day came early in the first event, as Matt DiBuono won the men's hammer throw event with a school record mark of 206' 2", qualifying him for both the NCAA Regional and IC4A Championship. He broke his previous school record mark of 202' set last weekend.

Besides DiBuono, Catherine Groene also posted a top ten finished, as she was ninth in the 400 intermediate hurdles in a time of 1:04.80.

On top of these two performances, Fordham had seven other finishers place in the top 20 for their event.

On the men's side, Kevin Fitzgerald and John Korevec were 19th (10:17.69) and 20th (10:21.63) respectively in the 3000 meter steeplechase, while Brian Schmidt was 19th in the 800 meters in 1:56.14. Brian Riley also had a top 20 finish, as he took 19th in the 5000 meters in 15:18.74.

For the women, Melissa Salerno was 11th in the 800 meters in 2:13.65, while Elisabeth Warren was 16th in the 200 meters (25.95) and tied for 20th in the long jump (16' 10").

Competition at the Colonial Relays will wrap up on Saturday, April 4th, beginning at 9:30 AM.
