Women's Basketball Signs Four During Spring Signing Period

April 28, 2009

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham women's basketball coach Cathy Andruzzi announced the signing of four student-athletes today,as Arielle Collins (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert/Hun School of Princeton), Jessica Frasier (Margate, N.J./Holy Spirit), Caitlin Shadbolt (Coomboona, Australia/Mooroopna/ Mineral Area C.C.) and Charlotte Stoddart (Manchester, England/Loreto School) have signed to play for Fordham University, beginning in the 2009-10 season.

"I am thrilled with our recruiting class this year," notes Andruzzi. "We have added size, experience, and offensive talent. They are a diverse group of student-athletes that will enhance our team's profile with depth and versatility."

Collins, a 5-8 point guard from New Jersey, attended the Hun School of Princeton where she led the team to the NJISAA State Tournament in 2008-2009 averaging 12.7 points and 5.6 assists-per-game. Her efforts at the Hun School landed her First Team All Mid-Atlantic Prep League honors while being named First Team All-Prep by the Trentonian.

Prior to her stint at the Hun School, Collins became the all-time leading scorer at Steinert High School with 1,732 career points. The two-time captain averaged 21.6 points and 4.6 assists-per-game during her senior campaign and was named team MVP in three of her four years. For her accomplishments at Steinert, she was named First Team All-Area and Fourth Team All-State All-Groups for the 2007-2008 season. An outstanding athlete, Collins earned all-state soccer honors for three years.

"Arielle is a play making, scoring point guard who sees the floor well," comments Andruzzi. "She knows where her teammates are on the court and that is reflective in the 5.6 assists she distributed last year at the Hun School. With the graduation of Annie Zopf it is going to be important for us to groom Arielle to contribute at this position."

Frasier, a 5-10 wing player from New Jersey, is a two-year captain at Holy Spirit High School where she tallied 1,055 career points and 740 rebounds to help lead Holy Spirit to four division titles and three conference titles during her career and a 24-5 record during her senior year. An outstanding deep shooter, she was named First-Team All Conference of the Cape Atlantic League, First-Team All Parochial and Second-Team All-Philadelphia Inquirer for South Jersey while competing in the NJSCAA North South All-Star Game.

Frasier finds success both on and off the court as a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society while boasting a 3.5 GPA along with being elected the Student Government Secretary.

"Jesse is a smart and mature player who provides us with size, scoring and rebounding from the wing position. Her ability to shoot the long ball and aggressiveness in hitting the boards is a talent that will be valuable and fills a need for our team," said Andruzzi.

Shadbolt, a 6-1 forward from Australia, played last year at Mineral Area Community College where she averaged 12.8 points and 6.9 rebounds in leading the team to a 22-10 record and a second place finish in both the MCCAC conference and NJCAA Region XVI. For her efforts in the 2008-09 seasons, she was named First-Team MCCAC All-Conference and First-Team NJCAA All-Region XVI. She will have two seasons of eligibility at Fordham.

Shadbolt, a versatile post with outstanding three-point shooting ability, also played four years of Division I basketball in her home country while earning a spot on the upper level leagues' All-Star Team. She earned the league's Rising Star award in 2007.

"Caitlin provides us with size and versatility in the post. She is a physical power forward with three-point range and good court vision. She comes from a strong program and was well coached by her junior college coach Gary Koch. Her experience will add value and depth to our interior game," said Andruzzi.

Stoddart, a 6-1 guard from England, recently played in England's Under-18 National Team where she averaged 17.2 points-per-game while shooting 75% from the free-throw line. She also helped lead her club team, the Manchester Mystics, to the 2008 Division One Quarter Finals. The Manchester native is currently trying out for England's Under-20 National Team. In January, Stoddart was called up to play for the Senior Great Britain team and has a wealth of other playing experience, including playing in the 2007 World High School Championships in Pau, France.

"Charlotte brings to Fordham the experience of playing on the International basketball stage and will add great value to our program. She is a competitor who has high aspirations and work ethic to match. Her length on the wing, sharp shooting touch and ability to hit the glass gives us a new dimension at that position," said Andruzzi.

Collins, Frasier, Shadbolt and Stoddart join Ranait Griff (Summit, N.J./Rutgers Prep) and Ariel Dale (Los Angeles, Calif./Pacific Hills), both of whom signed on with the Rams in the fall. For more information on Griff and Dale, click here.
