James Crockett, Robby Reis, John Skelton and Darzell Wright Named 2009 Fordham Football Captains

April 27, 2009

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham Univeristy head football coach Tom Masella announced that seniors James Crockett, Robby Reis, John Skelton and Darzell Wright will serve as 2009 captains at the annual Fordham Football Dinner at Lincoln Center on Friday night. This will mark the second consecutive year that Crockett and Skelton will serve as captains.

Crockett, a linebacker and two-year starter, was second on the 2008 squad with 61 total tackles, 35 solo, including 7.5 for loss and two sacks. He also recorded five pass deflections and intercepted one pass.

Over his career, Crockett has amassed 149 total tackles, 91 solo, in 33 career games. He also has 14 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, ten pass deflections and four interceptions.

Reis, an offensive lineman, has been a starter on the line the past two years, first at left guard as a sophomore and then at center last fall. He was a cog on the 2008 offensive line, a line that helped sophomore running back Xavier Martin become the sixth Ram to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season. The line also protected junior quarterback John Skelton, who set the Fordham career record for passing yards, accumulating 6,215 yards to date.

Skelton, a three-year starter at quarterback, has already found his way into the Fordham record books. Last year, he completed 228 of 372 passes for 2,605 yards and 15 touchdowns, bringing his career totals to 518 completions for 6,215 yards and 43 touchdowns. Skelton broke Kevin Eakin's all-time record of 6,112 passing yards while tying Joe Moorhead's mark for career completions. He is also just two passes shy of tying Eakin's career record for touchdown passes.

Wright, a starter on the defensive line the past two years, made 18 totals tackles last year, seven solo, including five tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.

Over his career, Wright has 41 total tackles, 22 solo, including 7.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Fordham will open the 2009 season on Saturday, September 5th, when the Rams travel to Kingston, R.I., to face the University of Rhode Island.
