Philadelphia, Pa. - The Fordham University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads competed at the first two days of the 2009 Penn Relays where Jeana Fletcher took 12th in the high jump on the first day of competition.
On Thursday, the first day of competition, Fletcher cleared 5' 3.25" in the high jump to claim 12th place in the event.
Also on Thursday, the women's distance medley relay of Sherilyn Groeninger, Catherine Groene, Kathleen Reilly and Melissa Salerno placed sixth overall in a time of 11:58.75.
Other women's relays competing on Thursday included the 4x400 team of Groeninger, Christine Willeford, Deanna Minasi and Elisabeth Warren that won its heat and finished 61st overall and the 4x400 squad of Willeford, Kelly Connolly, Warren and Dana Mitchell that placed fourth in its heat and 71st overall.
On Friday, it was the men's turn to compete in the relays with the distance medley relay of Clifton Hilario, Christopher Lyons, Brian Schmidt and Tom Finnerty leading the way, taking 25th overall in a season-best time of 9:59.49.
Also competing in the men's relays was the 4x200 squad that took fifth in its heat and 45th overall (1:30.42), and the 4x100 relay which placed fifth in its heat and 69th overall (43.84).
The men's and women's sprint medley relays also ran on Friday with the Fordham men's team of Fred Wertz, Frank Massaro, Nick Delligatti and Brian Horowitz placing sixth in its heat and 34th overall in 3:34.20 and the women's team of Groeninger, Warren, Connolly and Mitchell finishing eighth in its heat and 33rd overall in 4:20.00.
The 2009 Penn Relays will conclude on Saturday, April 25th, beginning at 7:00 a.m.
