Woodbridge, Va. - Coming off a long break, due to spring break and the weather, the Fordham University women's tennis team returned to action after more than a month off when the Rams ventured down to the nation's capital to take on George Washington University on Wednesday, falling to the Colonials, 6-1. With the loss, Fordham drops to 3-8 on the year.

George Washington opened the match by winning the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles matches. Fordham's Dominique Liguori and Martina Featherston won over Jacqui Corba and Nadia Demidenko at first doubles, 8-4, but that would be the only doubles win for the Rams. Sarah Tremaine and Bethany Boyle fell to Meg Tyner and Jennifer Hirsh at second doubles, 8-3, and Kathryn Silva and Elizabeth Stall were defeated by Madhuri Jha and Zoe Krohn at third doubles, 8-2.

In singles play, Liguori kept her 2008-09 singles record intact with her 15th straight win of the year. Liguori won the first set over George Washington's Demidenko, 7-5, and then took the second, 7-6 (6-0).

The other Fordham singles players all fell in straight sets. Featherston was upended at second singles by Corba (6-1, 6-2) while Tremaine dropped third singles to Hirsh (6-2 and 6-0). Boyle lost at fourth singles to Krohn (6-3 and 6-4), Silva fell at fifth singles to Tyner (6-1 and 6-1) and Stall was defeated by Michelle Style at sixth singles (7-5 and 6-0).

The Fordham women's tennis squad will next be in action on Saturday, April 4th, as the Rams host Villanova on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 11:00 a.m.
