The Fordham University women's tennis squad opened play at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship with a 4-0 loss to Duquesne on Friday morning at the Club for Life.  The tenth-seeded Rams will now play on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
Duquesne, the seven seed, opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning both completed doubles matches. Fordham's Dominique Liguori and Martina Featherston fell at first doubles to Zena Williams and Rachel McGowan, 8-1, and Sarah Tremaine and Kathryn Silva were upended by Duquesne's Rebecca Poole and Sam Noble at second doubles, 8-1.
In singles play, Featherston lost at the second spot to McGowan (6-2, 6-0) while Tremaine lost to Poole at the third position (6-1, 6-4) and Elizabeth Stall dropped sixth singles to Duquesne's Tara Majdalani (6-0, 6-2).  Liguori was ahead of Williams in play at first singles, winning the first set 6-1 and leading in the second, 5-3, when play was halted.
