The Fordham women's tennis team picked up some momentum heading into this weekend's Atlantic 10 Championship, as they concluded their regular season with a 5-2 victory over Concordia College at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, N.Y.
With the win, Fordham is now 5-9 on the season.
Fordham began the match by taking two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Dominique Liguori and Martina Featherston picked up an 8-3 win over Somadi Druker and Celise Sesanker at first doubles, while Bethany Boyle and Elizabeth Stall registered an 8-1 win at third doubles over Tita Kiss and Adeline Brennan.
In singles play, Liguori finished the regular season undefeated at 18-0 at first singles, as she topped Cristina Oliveira in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Sarah Tremaine followed with a straight sets win at third singles, defeating Sesanker, 6-3, 6-4, while Bethany Boyle topped Kiss, 6-2, 7-6, at fourth singles
The Rams then finished the match with a come from behind win at sixth singles, as Brittany Russell defeated Brennan, 1-6, 6-2, and 10-5.
The Fordham women's tennis team will now travel to Monroeville, Pennsylvania, to start competition at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship on April 17-19. Match-ups for the Championship will be announced later this week.
