Fordham University sophomore shortstop Samantha Pellechio (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) was honored by the Atlantic 10 today, being named Softball Player of the Week for the week ending April 12th. This is the second Player of the Week honor for Pellechio, who was also named Player of the Week on February 16th.
Pellechio hit .643 (9-14) on the week, with three doubles, one home run and four RBI as the Rams went 2-2, splitting doubleheaders with Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Bonaventure. She hit safely in all four games on the week to bring her team-leading hitting streak to eight games. Pellechio opened the week going 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI in a 9-7 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday. In conference play, she went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and an RBI in a game two win over St. Bonaventure.
On the season, Pellechio, who was named to the 2008 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team last spring, is hitting a team-high .386 (49-127) with ten doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 35 RBI. She leads the team in hits, home runs and RBI and is second in doubles and walks (16).
The Rams, 28-15 overall and 8-4 in the Atlantic 10, return to action on Wednesday, April 15th as they play host to Hofstra University for a single game on Bahoshy Field starting at 6:00 PM.
