Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University crew competed with Iona College and Dowling College at Orchard Beach prior to heading into the Easter Break with three of the four Ram crews coming away with a victory.
In the varsity 8, the Fordham "A" boat covered the course in a time of 7:16.7, beating Dowling, bronze medalists at the 2008 NCAA Division II National Championship, to the finish line by over five seconds, with Iona placing third, well behind the top two, and the Fordham "B" shell fourth.
In the varsity 4, the Rams took the top two spots with the Fordham "A" shell crossing the line in a time of 8:16.7, 30 seconds ahead of the Fordham "B" boat. The Iona "A" crew was third, crossing the finish line well behind the Fordham "B" boat while the Iona "B" team placed fourth and the Dowling squad took fifth.
The Fordham novice 8 had only one competitor and the Rams made quick work of the Iona shell, placing first in a time of 8:39.0, over ten seconds ahead of the Iona crew.
The only race in which the Fordham women didn't take gold was the novice 4, a race won by Iona with the Fordham shell placing second.
Through the first six regatta of the 2009 season, the Fordham crew has won four of the six team titles and the varsity 8 shell is currently 26-7 on the year.
The Fordham crew will next be in action on Saturday, April 18th, as the Rams compete at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.
