The Fordham University men's tennis team opened its 2009 spring season at Lafayette on Saturday with a 6-1 loss to the Leopards.
Fordham opened the match by dropping the doubles point as Lafayette won two of the three doubles matches. Austin Shoup and Dallas Harting teamed up to win at first doubles for the Rams over Matt McGranaghan and Justin Haar, 8-7 (3). But Nick Kelly and Ken Fukumoto fell at second doubles to Lafayette's Doug Gallagher and Kyle MacLelland, 8-3, and Andriy Kulak and Peter Slucky were upended at third doubles by James Murphy and Andrew Morris, 8-4.
Shoup picked up the Rams' lone point at first singles, defeating McGranaghan. Shoup won the first set, 6-3, before McGranaghan took the second, 6-2. Shoup won the point by taking the tiebreaker, 10-5.
The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, March 11th, as they travel to Jersey City, N.J., to face Saint Peter's College at 3:00 p.m.
