Raleigh, N.C. - While the rest of the team was bust at the Monmouth Opener, select members of the Fordham men's and women's outdoor track and field teams were competing at the 2009 Reebok Raleigh Relays in North Carolina.
Matt DiBuono led the Rams with a fourth place performance in the hammer throw with a school-record toss of 202' 0" in just his first outdoor meet of the year. he surpassed his own school mark of 197' 3" set last spring. DiBuono also placed 23rd in the shot put (46' 6") and 24th in the discus (135' 9").
Other competitors for the men included Jason Grant; who placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of 6' 6.75"; Tom Finnerty, who was seventh in the 1500m (3:53.05); Brian Schmidt, who finished 30th in the 400m (49.50); Christopher Lyons, who placed 47th in the 100m (11.62); Brandon Ryan, was finished 48th in the 400m (50.33) and Nick Delligatti, who as 54th in the 100m (11.62).
The men's 4x1500 relay of Finnerty, Brian Riley, Kevin Fitzgerald and Ryan Campi placed eighth (16:04.25) as did the 4x800 relay of Hutchinson, Schmidt, Finnerty and Clifton Hilario (7:37.61) while the 1600 sprint relay of Delligatti, Lyons, Ryan and Brian Horowitz took eleventh (3:31.88). The 4x200 relay of Delligatti, Lyons, Ryan and Grant finished 19th (1:30.16) while the 4x400 relay of Delligatti, Lyons, Hilario and Ryan placed 22nd (3:22.12).
For the women, Brigid Moriarty was the top individual finisher, placing 21st in the 5000m in a time of 18:12.75 while also placing 47th in her section of the 1500m (5:01.83). Also competing were Catherine Groene, who finished 34th in the 400m hurdles (1:05.98); Jeana Fletcher, who was 55th in the 100m hurdles (15.88); Kelly Connolly, who took 60th in the 400m (59.73); Sherilyn Groeninger, who was 71st in the 100m (12.95), Kathleen Reilly, who placed 71st in the 400m (1:00.84); Elisabeth Warren, who finished 83rd in the 100m (13.23) and Christine Willeford, who was 92nd in the 100m (13.67).
Kerri Gallagher took seventh in her section of the 1500m (4:49.39) while Melissa Salerno was 12th in her heat of the 1500m (4:37.68).
The women's 1600 sprint relay team of Warren, Deanna Minasi, Connolly and Reilly finished 14th in a time of 4:12.86 while the 4x400 relay of Connolly, Salerno, Reilly and Kerri Gallagher was 21st (4:03.88), 4x200 relay of Groeninger, Minasi, Connolly and Warren took 24th (1:46.13) and the 4x100 relay of Groeninger, Groene, Minasi and Warren placed 27th (50.26).
The Fordham men's and women's outdoor track and field team will next be in action on Friday, April 3rd as they compete at the Colonial Relays in the Williamsburg, Va.
