The Fordham men's tennis team had their second spring match on Wednesday afternoon at St. Peter's College, where the Rams fell to the Peacocks, 5-2, at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City.
With the loss, Fordham is now 4-5 overall on the year.
St. Peter's opened the match taking two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. St. Peter's Tony Wilkey and Chris Frakes topped Fordham's Austin Shoup and Dallas Harting at first doubles, 8-3, while Peter Czajka and Jake Baranowski defeated Nick Kelly and Ken Fukumoto, 8-6 at second doubles.
Fordham's Andriy Kulak and Eli Plangger took the third doubles match by an 8-0 count.
In singles play, Fordham's Kevin Maloney won at fourth singles over Baranowski, 6-4, 6-3, while the Rams also picked up a singles point with a default win at sixth singles.
The match then came down to a pair of three-set matches at first and third singles. Shoup (first) and Brandon Abbatiello (third) both battled back from a set down to force a decisive third set. Unfortunately neither could complete their comeback, as Shoup fell to J.J. Gramatica, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3, while Abbatiello lost to Czajka, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
The Fordham men's tennis team will next be in action on March 26th, when they play at Sacred Heart, beginning at 3:00 PM.
