The Fordham University women's tennis team ventured up to West Point on Sunday to take on the Army team, falling to the Black Knights, 5-2. With the loss, Fordham falls to 3-7 on the year.
Army opened the match by winning the doubles point, taking all three doubles matches. Michael Tollerton and Kristin Beehler won at first doubles over Fordham's Dominique Liguori and Martina Featherston, 8-5, while Sarah Tremaine and Bethany Boyle fell to Jurelle Mendoza and Robie Verano at second doubles, 8-4. At the third position, Fordham's Kathryn Silva and Elizabeth Stall were defeated by Audrey Hansen and Annie Hang, 8-2.
Liguori and Featherston picked up singles wins for the Rams with Liguori taking first singles from Anne Houghton in straight sets, 6-3 and 7-5. Featherston was victorious at second singles over Patty Vollmer, dropping the first set to Vollmer, 6-2, but coming back to win the second, 7-5 and the tiebreaker, 13-11.
The Fordham women's tennis squad will next be in action on Sunday, March 1st, as they travel to Washington, D.C., to face George Washington at 1:00 p.m.
