Fordham University freshman Lindsey Kay Bright (Federal Way, Wash./Decatur) was named Atlantic 10 Softball Rookie of the Week, it was announced today by the conference in its second set of weekly softball awards. This is Bright's first career weekly honor, and second for a Ram this season, as Samantha Pellechio earned Player of the Week honors last week.
Bright hit .500 on the week (7-for-14) and reached base in 13 of 17 plate appearances to go with a .571 slugging percentage. She posted three runs scored, two stolen bases, and three walks over the weekend.
Bright was 3-for-4 with a run scored against Providence, and then had a double and a run scored in the Rams' win over FAU. She posted a hit, two walks and a stolen base against Arkansas, while going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base at FIU.
Overall, she improved her batting average to a team-best .464 this season to go with six runs and a team-high five stolen bases.
Bright and the rest of the Rams will be back in action this weekend, February 27-March1, as they participate in the ECU Pirate Classic in Greenville, North Carolina. The Rams will meet Delaware, Towson, East Carolina, and Siena during the tournament.
