The Fordham University squash team got things off on the right foot at the 2009 College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships at Princeton University, shutting out the University of Washington, 9-0, in the first round of play in the Serues Division.
Fordham won the first second and third positions by 3-1 scores while winning spots four through nine by 3-0 scores. Mike Hennessy won at the first position over Najib Morcos, winning the first game 9-2 before dropping the second, 9-0. But Hennessy came back to win the third and fourth games by identical 9-3 scores.
At the number two match, Jason Sherriff won the first two games from Brett McGinn, 9-1 and 9-3, before McGinn won the third, 9-1. But Sheriff came back to win game four, 9-6.
Peter Slucky split the first two games of the third position to Parisa Khalighi, winning the first game 9-6 before dropping the second, 9-3. Slucky then won the match with a 9-0 win in the fourth game and a 9-6 victory in the fifth.
Brandon Abbatiello, Eli Plangger, Andriy Kulak, Ken Fukumoto, James Lechleitner and Andrew Grosner then won at the fourth through ninth spots, respectively, by a score of 3-0.
With the win, the Rams advance to 5-9 on the year and they will next play Purdue University in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
