Rams To Open 150th Anniversary Season At Florida Atlantic On Friday

Feb. 19, 2009

Boca Raton, Fla. - The Fordham University baseball team opens the 2009 season this weekend, traveling to Boca Raton, Florida for a three-game series against Florida Atlantic University. The first pitch is scheduled for Friday, February 20 at 6:30 p.m. at FAU Stadium.

The Rams are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the very first baseball team at Rose Hill. This storied program, rich in history and tradition, has won more games than any other Division I program in the country, posting 4,000 wins, heading into the 2009 campaign, while claiming multiple championships and league titles.

Under the direction of current head coach, Nick Restaino, the winning tradition continues. Averaging over 30 wins a season, Restaino has kept Fordham in contention for the Atlantic 10 Championships in each of his first four seasons. The 2006 & 2008 squads missed the Atlantic 10 Tournament by just one game while qualifying in 2005 and reaching the Atlantic 10 Championship game in 2007.

"Everyone is anxious to get the season underway," notes Restaino on how the 2009 team is shaping up. "We have a special group of young men this year who are very tight knit."
