Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis team tried to make it a perfect 2-0 weekend on Sunday after defeating St. Peter's on Saturday. Vassar College had other ideas, taking the match by an 8-1 final in Poughkeepsie, New York. Fordham is now 3-6 on the season.
Vassar opened the match by taking the doubles points, sweeping all three matches. The Rams came close to taking second doubles as Bethany Boyle and Sarah Tremaine fell to Krista Romita and Joy Backer by a 9-7 final.
In singles play, Fordham senior Dominique Liguori kept her perfect singles' record intact as she defeated Nicole Pontee, 6-3 and 6-3 at first singles.
Fordham, however, was swept in the other five singles matches. The Rams' best efforts came at fourth singles where Boyle fell to Alexis Jacobson, 6-3, 6-3, while Tremaine fell to Jennifer Beckerman, 6-1, 6-4, at third singles.
The Fordham women's tennis team will next be in action on February 21-22 as they compete in the Army Invtiational at West Point.
