The Fordham track & field teams had their final tune-up meet at the Boston University's Valentine's Invitational on Saturday prior to next week's Atlantic 10 Championship. The Rams had a successful meet setting season-best times in most of the sprinting events, which included one IC4A qualifying time.
In the men's 400 meters, sophomore Brian Schmidt qualified for the IC4A Championship, placing 11th overall in a season-best time of 49.02. This was the second different event that Schmidt has qualified for at the IC4A Championship, having already qualified in the 500 meters.
Schmidt also ran a season-best time in the 200 meters, clocking in at 22.73 seconds, which tied fellow teammate Christopher Lyons, who also ran 22.73 on Saturday.
In the men's 800 meters, Kevin Fitzgerald placed 27th overall in a season-best time of 1:55.61, while Ryan Serkes was right behind him in 28th place in 1:55.69.
In the men's relays, the men's 4x400 relay bettered their IC4A qualifying time, placing seventh overall in a season-best time of 3:17.23, while the distance medley relay was eighth overall in 10:08.84.
On the women's side, Elisabeth Warren posted the best 200 meter time this season for Fordham, as she placed 31st in 25.92 seconds, while also placing 13th in the long jump with a mark of 5.17m.
Not to be outdone, Catherine Groene placed 35th in the 400 meters, clocking in at a Fordham-best time of 59.96 seconds.
Overall, the best finish for the women came in the 4x400 relay, which placed tenth overall in a season-best time of 3:57.73.
The Fordham track & field will next be in action on February 20-21, as they compete at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, held at the University of Rhode Island.
