Fordham Softball Announces 2010 Schedule

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham softball head coach Bridget Orchard announced the team's 2010 schedule today, as the Rams open their 26th season at Rose Hill, which will start on February 20th.

The Rams will be competing for their eighth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship tournament berth, and capture that elusive first Atlantic 10 title. The 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship is slated for May 12th-15th at the UMass Softball Complex in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Fordham will compete in five tournaments this season, which includes tournaments in Virginia, California, Florida, and Georgia.

Fordham opens their season at the Lancer Leadoff Classic, February 20-21, in a round robin tournament featuring host Longwood, Morehead State, and Quinnipiac.

The Rams then travel cross country to California for the third straight year, as they compete in the Palm Springs Classic in Cathedral City, California, for the second time in three years, February 25-27. The tournament will feature some of the highest ranked teams in the country, in which Fordham will play Texas A&M, San Diego State, Cal, Oregon State, and UNLV.

Following that trip, Fordham will make their annual trip to Clearwater, Florida, for the USF Under Armour Invitational, March 5-7. The Rams will play Florida International, Florida Gulf Coast, Central Michigan, Memphis, and Ball State.

The Rams then head to Atlanta for the Springhill Suites Buckhead Classic at Georgia Tech, March 13-14. Fordham will face Georgia State and host Georgia Tech on day one, followed by games against Georgia State and Mercer on day two.

Following that tournament, Fordham will have their home opener on March 17, when they host Seton Hall for a single game at Bahoshy Field. It will be the first of 18 home games this season.

The Rams then play in their final regular season tournament at James Madison in Harrisonburg, Virginia, from March 19-21. The Rams will play five games there against Pittsburgh (2), James Madison (2), and Winthrop.

The Rams return back to the New York area on March 24th, when they play a doubleheader at St. Peter's on March 24th. Besides St. Peter's, the Rams also have non-conference road games at Hofstra (April 20) and Iona (April 27).

Fordham begins Atlantic 10 competition on Sunday, March 28th, when they play a doubleheader at Dayton. Besides the Flyers, Fordham will make Atlantic 10 road trips to George Washington (April 16-17), La Salle (April 18), Temple (April 23-24), and Saint Joseph's (April 25).

After the Dayton games, Fordham returns to Bahoshy Field for a 12-game homestand, beginning with a doubleheader against St. John's on March 31st. Included in that homestand are six Atlantic 10 home games as well as non-conference doubleheaders against Manhattan (April 6) and Fairleigh Dickinson (April 14). In Atlantic 10 play over that homestand, Fordham will host Rhode Island (April 1), Massachusetts (April 3), and Saint Louis (April 9-10).

Following the homestand, the Rams play 10 straight on the road and finish the season with five straight home games, which includes a doubleheader with Charlotte (May 2), a single game with Iona (May 5), and a doubleheader with St. Bonaventure on Senior Day (May 9).
