Fordham University freshman forward Chris Gaston was named Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week it was announced today by the conference office. It is the first weekly award for the Rams this year.
In the only game of the week for Fordham, Gaston scored a season-high 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Rams upended Stony Brook, 93-77, in the Rose Hill Gym on December 8th. The double-double was his fifth-straight double-double performance and sixth of the season. Gaston added a season-high five assists and a pair of blocks.
On the year, Gaston is averaging 17.3 ppg and 11.6 rpg, both team highs. He is ranked second in the Atlantic 10 in rebounding and sixth in scoring. Gaston also leads the team and is second in the conference in blocks, averaging 2.7 blocks per game.
The Rams will be in action on Sunday afternoon, DFedcember 13th, as they travel into Queens to face St. John's at 4:00 p.m.
