The Fordham track & field teams hosted their second and final meet of the season at the Vincent T. Lombardi Center Fieldhouse on Friday night, posting ten event wins.
Of the ten Fordham event wins, seven came from the women's side. Sherilyn Groeninger led the way with two event wins in the 60 meter dash (7.6) and the 200 meter dash (26.3). Kelly Connolly took the top spot in the 500 meters in 1:19.1, while Sheena Parand won the mile run in 5:33.9. Kerry Kwalwasser (2:28.9) and Kerri Gallagher (10:54.8) took first in the 800 meter and 3,000 meter runs, respectively.
The 4x800 relay team of Connolly, Catherine Groene, Ashley Davis, and Parand, rounded out the women's victories with a winning time of 10:13.5.
In addition to her relay performance, Groene had three other top three finishes, as she was second in the 500 meters (1:21.7), third in the long jump (15' 10 ¼"), and third in the triple jump (33' 5 ¼"). Elisabeth Warren also had a strong performance, taking second in the long jump (16' 11 ½"), third in the 200 meters (27.1), and fifth in the 60 meter dash (8.0).
On the men's side, Sean Atkinson, Brian Schmidt, and Kevin Fitzgerald took home event wins. Atkinson won the 500 meters in 1:07.1, while Schmidt took home the 1,000 meter run in 2:31.9. Fitzgerald was first in the 3,000 meter run in 8:54.8.
Other top performers were led by Pat Brown, who was second in the shot put (33' 6 ½") and the weight throw (44' 5 ¼"), and Bernard Moore, who was third in the mile run (4:34.8). Carter Ward was also second in the 500 meters (1:07.6) with Jarrett Anistranski taking third in the 800 meters (2:01.5).
The Fordham track & field team is now off for Christmas break until January 8th, when they compete at the NYU Gotham Cup, held at the 168th St. Armory.
