Fordham Softball Announces Signee for 2011 Season

Dec. 1, 2009

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham Head Softball Coach Bridget Orchard announced today that catcher Gabriella Luety (Cortland, N.Y./Homer) has signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Fordham University, starting with the 2011 season.

"We are excited to have Gabby join our softball program. We feel that she will have an immediate impact upon her arrival here. She is a tremendous catcher and has a very powerful bat that will help replace our lone senior Erin Fisher," said Orchard.

Luety, a 5-8 catcher, is a multi-sport athlete at Homer High School in Cortland, New York, playing both varsity softball and basketball. In 2009, she was named First Team All-State and All-Central New York, after earning Second Team honors in 2008, and helped Homer to the Section III/B-1 Championship. She was also selected as the Liberty Division Co-Player of the Year in 2009, and named a NYS Section III All-Star for the second straight year.

In addition to her play at Homer, Luety played summer ball for the TC Tremors, who won the ASA 18U Gold Region 2 Championship this past year. Prior to her stint with the TC Tremors, she played for the Bagsai Thunder, who won the NYS ASA "A" 16U Championship.

Away from the field, Luety is a member of the National Honor Society.
