Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's crew successfully defended it Fall Metropolitan championship, placing well ahead of ten other schools on October 31st at the Orchard Beach Lagoon for its seventh straight Fall Met title.
Fordham finished with 147 team points, almost doubling-up on second place Iona which scored 74.5 points. Fairfield placed third (65), followed by Army (58), Dowling (51), Lehigh (38), Manhattan (21.5), Hofstra (18), NYU (9), Stony Brook (5) and Sarah Lawrence (3).
Leading the way for the Rams was the varsity 8 which won the Christeen Steffen Memorial Cup, covering the course in a time of 8:01, over 20 seconds in front of runner-up, Dowling. The boat was comprised of Alyssa Sunofsky, Stephanie Narduzzo, Francesca Andrea, Nadia Abdul ghani, Catherine Helmer, Lis Knips, Kayla Gaskey and Kate Branciforte with Christina Costa at coxswain. The Fordham varsity 8 B boat of Ravelle Mohammed, Mary Ellen Shoup, Elizabeth Anderson, Chelsea Berry, Katherine Hall, Elizabeth Anderson, julia LaFauci and Alyssa Cantrella with Abigail Paparo at coxswain placed fifth.
The novice 8 crew also took home a win for Fordham, defeating a crew from Army, a shell which had finished 0.16 seconds ahead of Fordham the previous week at the Head of the Schuykill, by 27 seconds. The Fordham Novice 8 was comprised of Elizabeth Anderson, Mary Ellen Shoup, Elizabeth Ayan, Alyssa Cantarella, Cara McGonigle, Ursula Leone, Jessica Cacace, and Julia LaFauci with Meghan Patenaude as coxswain.
The varsity four A shell placed second in the Helen Long Memorial Cup race, one second behind Dowling, while the novice four also placed second, two seconds behind Hofstra. The boat was made up of Narduzzo, Sunofsky, Abdul ghani and Andrea with Costa at coxswain. The Fordham varsity 4 B boat of Katie Helmer, Lis Knips, Kayla Gaskey and Kate Branciforte with Abigail Paparo at coxswain took third.
The Rams also entered three boats in the novice 4 competition with the A shell placing second, the B shell fourth and the C shell fifth. The A boat was comprised of Shoup, Anderson, Elizabeth Ayan and Cantrella with Jackie Hinke at coxswain.
