Newport News, Va. -
The Atlantic 10 Conference announced the 2009 Women's Soccer All-Conference and All-Rookie teams this afternoon, with the Rams having three honorees. Senior defender Lauren Bustos (Altadena, Calif./Flintridge Sacred Heart) and junior midfielder Katie McDermott (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) were named First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference, while freshman forward Annie Worden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery) was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.
Bustos earns First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors for the second consecutive year, making her the second Fordham women's soccer player to do so, joining Denise Corrado, who was a First Team selection in 1995 and 1996. She was a part of a Fordham defense that registered eight shutouts this season, including six in conference play.
From another part of the Fordham defense, McDermott receives All-Atlantic 10 honors for the third consecutive season, the first Fordham women's soccer player to ever accomplish that feat. Receiving Second Team honors the past two seasons, she received First Team honors today, after registering two goals and two assists for six points this season.
Worden, a one-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week selection, was the Rams' second leading scorer this season with five goals and two assists for 12 points. She came on strong in conference play with a team-best four goals and ten points, as well as two game-winning goals.
The Fordham Women's Soccer team begins play at the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday, November 5th, when the Rams take on Massachusetts at 5:30 PM.
